The $6,000 CAT scan
January 27,2009

January 27,2009 I was feeling pretty good so far about what the doctors
had told me and recommended.  Then the phone call came.

I was scheduled for a CAT scan on January 28 to insure the cancer had
not spread.  I was not looking forward to this test not knowing what the
outcome could be.  Fearing only the worse but, knew it was something I
had to do.

This appointment had been scheduled prior to this date.  I had the
lovely chalk drink they give you and was already dreading missing my
morning coffee the next day.

The phone call that crushed me was the deductible.

By this time I have already paid 4 instead of 1 $40.00 co-pay for what I
thought would be a 1 time doctor visit.

The voice on the other end of the phone was a friendly one but, what
she had to say was not something I wanted to hear.  She asked a lot of
questions and made sure I knew where to go for the tests.  Then she
dropped the bomb.  The CAT scan I was scheduled for called for a not
$40.00 deductible that I was already dreading but $1,500.00.

Yes, I said $1,500.00.  This was money I did not have.  She told me they
had what is called an un comp plan that due to my financial situation
might pay part, most or all of this.  I agreed to come in have the test and
pay $40.00.  I will let you know how the un comp plan works once I hear
from them.

A lady I know said she used this plan and though she had to reapply
several times it did finally pay all of the deduct.

Let's keep our fingers crossed.
